Tonight Jason Gardiner (judge on the hit show “Dancing on Ice” and fashion guru on “ITV’s This Morning”) sensationally revealed the real reason for wearing caps this series – he’s been covering up a hair transplant while it has been growing out. This bold public statement of appreciation makes Jason one of the first high profile celebrities to endorse this pioneering hair surgery helping to normalise the procedure in the eyes of others.
Jason, who is renowned for wearing a selection of hats both on and off screen, had hair restoration surgery last summer in Beverly Hills with the pioneering Hair Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Craig L. Ziering, who has 20 years of experience and has performed more than 15,000 procedures, making him one of the leading authorities in this field of medicine.
Jason’s public endorsement of this procedure coincides with Dr. Ziering bringing his microscopic follicular unit grafting techniques to the UK. Over the past nine months, he has trained and integrated a team of highly skilled surgeons and technicians to establish two clinics in Birmingham and London with operating theatres that are fully equipped with state-of-the-art Ziering technology, which is designed specifically for surgical hair restoration. Now UK hair transplant patients won’t have to travel to the States to get the most advanced surgical hair restoration techniques and results.

Jason’s hair transplant procedure involved obtaining a thin strip of donor hair, harvested from the donor area at the back of the head – a section of hair that is permanent and genetically programmed not to fall out. The donor strip is placed under the Ziering Scope designed specifically for hair restoration surgery and is then dissected into microscopic grafts of individual follicular units, of one to four hairs. The grafts are placed in cold, tissue storage and kept as such until they are meticulously placed in the recipient sites created by Dr. Ziering with the proper angle, direction and orientation. In Jason’s case, 3,501 grafts or approximately 8,000 hairs were transplanted. The transplanted hair shafts fall out within the first few weeks and the new follicles begin to appear at approximately 4 months. Most of the change occurs between 5 and 12 months and the transplanted hair continues to grow for a lifetime.
